“She got into Stanford? She’s probably from a disadvantaged family or something.”
Wow. Literally. I don’t even know what to say to you. How the fuck can you be so ignorant and so judgmental. Mother, I’m eternally grateful that you were able to provide me with a private school education, but I hope you don’t think that just because I went to Saint Francis, I was able to just glide through high school and get into college. In that same manner, how in the world can you just assume that this girl got into Stanford purely on the fact that she has some tragically compelling story that forced admissions to sympathize with her and therefore give her a spot in. (Note: she’s actually one of the smartest people I know and that’s not the case at all). I hate how anti-public school you are, especially when 1) I believe that the school doesn’t matter as much as what you take from it (especially since I was barely at Saint Francis and most of the internships and leadership positions I took were entirely outside of school) 2) most of my friends are from public schools 3) PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE NOT BAD AND YOU CAN’T JUST ASSUME THAT EVERYONE IS A DRUG ADDICT OR HOOLIGAN.
I don’t care if the school’s API score isn’t that great. I don’t care if the school doesn’t necessarily have a great reputation. She got in because she deserves it. She got in because she worked her ass off for 4 years to get to where she is today. And how in the world do you—or anyone else, for that matter—have the right to discredit her merit and assume anything less.
/sorry this was really incoherent I’m just literally so frustrated with the amount of ignorance and pretentiousness within this household and I will probably delete this post tomorrow
